Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch?

Not St Vincent Room!!!!!!
We received an invitation to a fish and chip lunch at Haven Road Fish and Chip Shop, after writing a letter to Mr MacDonald, the owner. He rescued a red billed seagull with a hook in it's beak. The letter was spotted in the shop and The Leader who published the original story, asked for a follow up photo. Mr MacDonald suggested we come on Monday for lunch and Jonathan from The Leader joined the children and our parent/grandparent helpers for fish, sausages, mussels and and chips on the wharf. The seagulls joined us too!

Zebra Crossing

This week we all crossed the Zebra Crossing after school and before school. We want the cars and trucks to look out for us kids when we are crossing the road.
Sophie and me got to wear the Zebra suits. Lots of kids got to wave the Zebra cards and some kids got to wear the special t-shirts or a school t-shirt.
Cody's mum brought a wee pony to walk with us. She was wearing a zebra suit too. By Marlin

Heaps of Special Beads

Jaz and Cody are our very special children who have had major operations, visits to hospital and treatments. For each of these they receive a special bead. The children brought their beads to share with the class.

Edible Gardens at APS

We have a new school gardening tutor, Gaby. On Wednesday we had our first session, Gaby showed the children around the gardens, planted some tomatoes, watched a monarch butterfly hatch out and watered the plants. Five children from Nile Room and five children from St vincent Room are involved. Other children will have an opportunity to take part next term.

Peek a boo Noah!!

Noah and Rueben took the camera out to photograph the seagulls......but they were playing hard to find! But armed with some sandwich crust they were soon charmed off the roof.

Martin Kolb from Switzerland

Martin has come from Switzerland to teach in St vincent Room for 3 weeks. He is teaching the children how to play the harmonica. There is lots of huffing and puffing, but we can play our first tune already.
Martin loves soccer, teaching kids and hokey pokey ice cream.
On Martin's last day with us we all had a hokey pokey ice cream and some homemade hokey pokey, Martin loved it!
He is off on more adventures in the North Island but he may come back one day. We hope so!!

Swimming at Auckland Point

St Vincent Room children swim every day at 2.30. Parents are invited to come and see how confident the children are in the water. 2.30 is a great time slot as the temperatures reach up to the high twenties around that time of the day and we are all starting to wilt a little!

After reading about Mr Mac Donald saving a seagull with a hook stuck in it's bill, Sophie, Rueben and Marlin wrote a letter and Noah took a photo of our playground seagulls. We laminated the letter with some sketches of seagulls and took it down to Haven Fish and Chip shop on Haven Road....our favourite fish and chip shop.

Read the follow up to this on Monday 27th February's blog.
