K.E.G.S. Soil testing

This week , Lindsay taught us how to test the soil to see why our plants weren't growing faster. She had a kit, which she put soil in the measurer cup. We poured liquid in and in Lindsay's booklet we checked to see what colour it was. It was acidic. She is bringing lime which is a powder, it will go sweeter and even. Whaitiri

Disco

Crazy hair DISCO

Last night in the school hall there was a school disco.

The theme was crazy hair and I got my hair spray painted (with hair spray) for it.

I went to the school disco with mum,Alex and Summer. It was cool because I got to have lollies, lollypops and drinks. We were dancing and I even got to put on the music for 1 hour. I put on my favorite songs like Bad Hair Day, Jump Jam songs and even Caleb’s favourite song. My best song was the Party Rock Anthem. I danced crazy on the stage with Matt while Grace was spinning round like a headless chicken.

There were fairy lights all around the hall and there were balloons on the walls all around the hall. A big thank you to all the PTA (P parent T teacher A association) that has helped us to make this fun thing happen. Thank you to all the children that came to the school disco.

We had the crazy hair theme because the parents have bought the wigs for

ROCK DA HOUSE.

Spudie our potato update.

This is Week 9 and Spud is sitting in our classroom window. That's the hot spot. Whaitiri has taken responsibility for watering Spud. Spud is just too heavy to move in and out of our classroom now. Mrs Cauling was spotted getting more potting mix and it was noticed she had a large pot in her car....what could this mean???

Samantha's Pizza

A recipe for pizza.

This is how you make a delicious Italian Pizza.
First you wash your hands.
Second you buy all the ingredients that you need and want.
Make the dough by mixing water, salt, flour and oil. (Unless you have a shop bought one)
You spread tomato paste on the pizza base and if you like, you can spread tomato sauce on it. Sprinkle what ever you want on the base and slide it in the oven.
My favourite pizza would have to be chicken and feta.
I love to sprinkle cheese on it because it melts in your mouth.

On the base spread the tomato paste, on the top of the pizza base spread more sauce like BBQ, chilli, peri peri and tomato , then some onion and chillies and chopped up peppers and some juicy pineapple and olives. Sprinkle some mushrooms then add some meats, like bacon ,salami and ham then some anchovies. Some people like spaghetti and add a little bit of basil. Finally sprinkle some cheese with a tablespoon of oil, with some honey and spices or herbs . My favourite pizza is prawns and fish. My mum makes it. What is your favourite?

Our Italian Pizza Day

This is how you make a delicious Italian Pizza.
The very first thing you do is wash your hands.
Then you buy a pizza base or make one with water, flour and a bit sugar.
After that you spread tomato paste or if you like you can use tomato sauce on the base.
The toppings can get amazing, like peppers, pineapple, mushrooms and ham. Judi's favourite is anchories. Some other toppings are spaghetti, olives, different meats, (I do not like meat because I am a vegetarian) BBQ sauce, chilli sauce and peri peri sauce. My favourite is pepper and avocado. Adventures of our USA rugby player

  • Guess where he went in the weekend??

Vandalised Rugby Figures

During the weekend our rugby figures got vandalised by some horrible teenagers, they broke the tops off some rugby players sticks. Marlins rugby figure got stolen and taken to Nayland College by some of the teenagers. Jazmyn's rugby figure also got stolen and taken to Alex's neighbour's house. Some people have broken arms and legs too . We have now tied them on to our palms so they don't get vandalized again. Tonight is the big game between USA and Italy. I think that the rugby figures will be a lot safer on our palm trees.
We hope it is a good game. Alex and Whaitiri are going to watch the game.

Midnight, the Flemish Giant

Midnight, my rabbit.

"Are we there yet?" I moaned as we came to Tapawera. "Not yet", Mum said. As we neared the picnic area, I started to wonder what my really early birthday present was.
Mum said that dad would have to build something for it. We waited for a while and then a van parked behind us. Mum got out and asked me to bring the cage from the boot. I was thinking a puppy or a new kitten?
The lady opened the side of the van and pulled out a cage. I saw a small black thing crawling in the cage. The lady carefully pulled it out of the cage and gave it to me. I started to smile and felt really excited because the small black thing was a rabbit!
A Flemish Giant baby rabbit.
It was all black with a little patch of ginger and white on one foot.
When I got home I locked the dogs downstairs and I took the rabbit out of the cage.
I decided to call my rabbit Midnight because he is black and fluffy.

Italy beats Russia

First game in Nelson

Last night was the first game in Nelson, for the Rugby World Cup.

The roads were closed and the streets were packed with cars and the roads were full of people, they were everywhere.

The kick off was at 7.30, I could hear them cheering from my house, we were checking the updates on the computer every time we heard a great big cheer from the crowd.

The score was 53-17. Italy scored 53 and Russia scored 17. I was hoping Italy would win, and they did.

Rugby Figures in Daffodils

This morning our class put our rugby players out in the daffodils. Grandad Steven came to help us, he hammered them into the ground, because we found we couldn't reach the top of the stakes! We spread them out in their teams. Russia with Italy and USA with Australia. People going past hooted and waved. They look wonderful in the daffodils. Judi took photos of us with our rugby players.

Typing Buddies

We taught Trafalgar Room Kids how to get on their blog and post a comment. I did the typing and Conroy watched my fingers, then he had a go at making a comment. I had to help him but he was quite good. I'm still on Level 1 typing skills but I'm getting up there. Quentin Williams. 8

Burnese, the Captain Cooker piglet

The rescue of Burnese the pig.

Burnese was rescued by Jayden and the people that work with Steve. Burnese and her siblings were in a controlled burn off, the other siblings died and the sow ran away. After they had caught the little piglet, she was kept a backpack for the rest of the day by one of the workers. Burnese was found in Dart Valley, the men thought the sow had 5 or 6 piglets. She was the runt of her litter. Burnese is a captain cooker pig. She has black fur and a little straight tail. She will live with Matt until she is old enough to live on a farm that belongs to one of the workers that works with Steve.

I want a pig to raise, they are really cute when they are little. Jasmyn

Jayden rescued Miss Burnese in a burn off. The other piglets ran away. Five piglets were dead in the burn off. Jayden saved Miss Burnese. Steve burned off space to plant trees in the forest. The burn off was at Dart Valley, it is near Motueka. Jayden put the little piglet in his backpack, and at the end of the day he gave it to Steve (Matt’s dad) to look after.
Miss Burnese is living with Matt and when she is older she will go and live on a farm. If Jayden hadn’t found her she might have died. Quentin

Steve is the forestry contractor. Steve lit a controlled fire nearby where there was a group of piglets. Most of the piglets were killed in the fire. After the fire burn off. Jayden, a man, went over the hills. Suddenly a piglet came running out and Jayden ran after it and caught it. He put it in his backpack for the whole day. When Jayden saw Steve, he gave him the pig.
So he took it home for Matt and Katherine to look after. It was a lucky pig. Dylan

A little piglet was rescued by Jayden from a controlled burn off. Jayden put the piglet in his bag for the rest of the day. After work Jayden went to Steve and gave him the piglet. When Steve got home he said to Matt “Here’s a piglet you have to look after.” Two weeks after Katharine named the piglet, Burnese. Burnese is small and black. She is really fluffy and she has a little straight tail. She will go to a farm when she’s older.
She is a really cute Piglet. Paige

We found this great story, which is based on emails, (it's a true story) in our School Junior Journal, 42. We read it to our buddies and Samantha and Jasmyn read it to the class. Ebony Beani, is a little Captain Cooker, just like Burnese.

Wednesday Night's Show

We met at school at 6.30 pm on Wednesday night in the school hall. Everyone was ready for the first show. Auckland Point is doing 2 shows.
We walked over to the Trafalgar Centre and we went on the the stage. We sang lots and lots of songs like Eye of tiger and lots of others. Our favourite is the Bad Hair Day, that was when we put on our wigs. We look wicked with our wigs on. John Philips looked great in his purple wig. We all sang well, so our teacher was giving us the good eye and the thumbs up. We looked really good in our wigs, which were all colours. Matt is wearing a green wig.
In the middle of the show some Samoan kids came out and did a dance, they had oil on them and one of them had a tatoo on his back. They were really funny when they suddenly did Dancing Queen in the middle of their Samoan dance. It was a very late night but we get to come late on Friday morning. We really enjoyed singing on the stage.

Rock da House

Today we crossed the road to Trafalgar Centre for our first practice of Rock da House. Lots of schools who are going to be part of Wednesday night's concert were there. We all wore our wigs for Bad Hair Day.
